Daily more than 1,800 Nepalese leave the country for pursuing their studies and foreign employment. A total of 32,889 students and 639,167 aspirant emigrant workers left for various countries in the fiscal year 2016/17 (source :-DoFE and MOE Nepal) and this trend is increasing. Most popular destination for Nepalese student is USA, UK, Australia, Japan etc and Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for Nepalese migrant workers.

Aspiring Nepalese emigrant workers and students are required to undergo a pre-employment/pre enrollment  medical examination to ensure that s/he is in a good physical condition to be able to adapt to the new environment and perform his responsibilities at work satisfactory.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the medical criteria for both student and work visas. Medical test requirements  vary slightly depending on the criteria of the country whose visa you are seeking. In general, countries require a medical history review, physical examination, chest X-ray and blood tests for infectious and sexually transmitted diseases.
Precautionary tests for communicable and non-communicable diseases are becoming part of the visa process to ensure that applicants who may be infected are identified before they reach the port of entry.

Some of the most common tests are listed below.

Blood Test: This can provide information about liver and kidney function, complete blood count (including red and white blood cells, platelets and hemoglobin), various types of Hepatitis, syphilis and HIV.

Urine Test: Urine analysis is used to detect conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, liver problems, diabetes, and other metabolic conditions.

Chest X-ray: This is used to diagnose shortness of breath, persistent cough, fever, chest pain, and injury. It can also help diagnose and monitor treatment for a variety of lung conditions such as pneumonia, emphysema and cancer.

The following indications/conditions need attention.

Tuberculosis: An abnormal Chest X-ray and a positive Acid Fast Bacteria (AFB) screening test indicate tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is one of the Nepal's top health challenges. More than 15 million people, almost half of the Nepal's population is infected with TB. Each year 44000 new cases are detected and 5000 to 7000 people die of TB in Nepal. It is estimated that one infected person transmit 20 healthy individuals in an average. So many countries prohibit the immigrants with TB or TB suspects.

Many countries prohibit foreign students/ workers with infectious disease like Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), tuberculosis and pulmonary scar. Candidates with Chronic renal failure, hepatitis, liver failure, congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer, psychiatric disease and neurological disorders are also unfit to work abroad

Pregnancy: Many countries require you to take certain vaccinations or other precautions that you may not be able to take if you are pregnant, or may have to take with special precautions. For instance, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention instruct panel physicians and laboratories to provide expectant mothers with extra abdominal and pelvic protection using double-layer wrap-around lead shields when they undergo chest radiographs.

Nepal government has authorized certain institutes for medical examination and issuing medical certificates for Nepali migrant workers and students. Nippon is one of the renowned  medical center in this field with competent and highly qualified and motivated medical team with standard lab and imaging facilities. It is located at the heart of kathmandu about 150m from New Bus Park, Balaju and about 2 km from Japanese Embassy Nepal.

MEDICAL FITNESS TEST OF IMMIGRANT NEPALESE STUDENT

Boon to both student and the host (receiver) country

Kathmandu, Nepal, Monday, ‎February ‎05, ‎2018— Nippon medical center, Nepal, one of the established government approved  medical center for medical test and fitness examination of nepalese emigrants, is concerned with the medical fitness of the nepalese students going to japan.

Every year over 10,000 Nepali students go to Japan to pursue higher studies  and the number is likely to grow substantially in coming years. Japan is the 2nd most preferred destination for abroad study to the Nepali students. Nepali community is 5th largest foreign communities in Japan. According to a latest available figure number of Nepalese nationals residing in Japan is 67,470 (December 2016).

Japan is a longstanding friend and development partner of Nepal. Nepal's majestic mountains and natural beauties and its people have always touched the hearts and minds of the Japanese. The relations are marked by mutual trust, goodwill and understanding between the two countries.

High education standards, vast opportunities following studies, high visa success rate, affordable college fee, part time job and hassle free documentation attracts nepali students to fulfil their dreams. But for the student, life  is not as easy as expected, at least in the earlier days, due to entirely different environment, busy college schedule, overwork, odd working hours, less earning as per their expectations, most expensive lifestyles and the state of being disconnected from their families. All of these may contribute to the psychosomatic problem and high suicidal tendency  among nepali students. In addition students face barriers in accessing mainstream healthcare, particularly for chronic diseases, communicable diseases, HIV/AIDS mainly due to cultural differences and communication difficulties, even though it's free.

It is well known that Nepal is at high risk zone for the communicable diseases like tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhoea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C etc. Almost half of the Nepal's population is infected with TB and HIV prevalence among certain population groups such as drug abusers are more than 5%. Such disease of public health significance can harm the individual as well as the host country. So any Nepali student can be the carrier of infection and potential threat to public health.

For many countries like USA, Australia medical fitness report is the prerequisite eligibility criteria before visa application/ college enrollment of Nepalese Student. Medical test report slightly vary among countries but in general requires detail medical history, physical examination, and screening/ diagnostic testing of disease of public health significance.

Medical test will identify the chronic illness ,communicable diseases and physical and mental illness of the applicants so that s/he will be  treated early if any . Applicants will be free of disease and s/he won't be threat to public health anymore.  Healthy individual both physically and mentally can easily cope up with new situations, face the challenges and be determined to pursue their dreams in foreign land.

We highly recommend for similar medical fitness test of each student before college enrollment in Japan like other countries for the benefit of student as well as host nation.

Nippon Medical Center, Balaju, Nepal, running successfully since last 9 years is committed to provide medical reports with zero errors. We will be grateful if the sole authority is given to our institute for medical clearance report before getting enrollment to your institution. Screening / diagnostic lab test and imaging

Nepal is in high risk zone for the communicable diseases like tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhoea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C etc.
National Statistics have shown than 15 million people, almost half of the Nepal's population is infected with TB. Each year 44000 new cases are detected and 5000 to 7000 people die of TB in Nepal. It is estimated that one infected person transmit 20 healthy individuals in an average. So many countries prohibit the immigrants with TB or TB suspects.
In general HIV prevalence among adult population is 0.17% in 2016. However HIV prevalence among certain population groups such as people who inject drugs, female sex workers and MSM (men sex with men) and TG (trans gender)are more than 5% due to which Nepal's HIV epidemic is categorized as concentrated epidemic.

Many countries prohibit foreign students/ workers with infectious disease like tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), HIV/AIDS and pulmonary scar. We are specialised in screening and diagnosis of these disease conditions with standard protocols.
Like for tuberculosis we screen and diagnose as shown in picture.

Similarly, HIV screening is done by ELISA technique and confirmatory Western Bolt test is done for ELISA positive case.

Imaging and Lab test are
1 Chest X-ray – For any abnormalities and other findings including no active lung lesion,
                       - each x ray is reported by the consultant radiologist

2 screening / diagnostic lab- by our own high quality laboratories and qualified lab technicians
i)CBC  ii) Urine      iii) VDRL   iv)  HIV    v) HBsAg     vi) anti HBc
